Everywhere in Europe the citizens are rising up and taking to the streets because the EU is under threat. Right anti-Europeans are trying to convince us that we would be better off without the EU.

At the same time lots of governments are obstructing progressive policies. And undemocratic trade agreements and unsocial austerity programmes are making people feel rightfully outraged! Too often the interests of corporations are being put before those of the citizens.

However: In times of globalisation, the rights for consumers, workers and an environment worth living in can only be defended and further developed by a strong EU. Nation states are too weak on their own.

That’s why we stand up for a democratic EU that listens closely to its citizens. We fight for an EU that ensures peace and that is tolerant and open to the world. We want a European Union that puts social equality first.
